dry rubbed bbq ribs

I am totally a fall off the bone rib lover, and these were exactly that WITHOUT searing, grilling and all that jazz. All you need to make this recipe is your favorite dry rub, your favorite BBQ sauce, some aluminum foil & an oven! Say whaaaattt?

Wanna know a secret? This is the first time I have ever made pork ribs at home. Yup, you read that right! And want to know something else? I think they may have been the easiest meat to prepare that I have ever done and were absolutely DELICIOUS. This is kind of a set it & forget it recipe that will become as staple dish in your household!

MAKES

1 rack ribs

Prep Time: 5 minutes (not including marinating time)

Actual Time: 4 hours 30 minutes

INGREDIENTS

1 full rack pork ribs

1/4 cup dry rub (you can use your favorite pre-made rub or create your own! My favorite is Salt Lick BBQ Dry Rub with a little added brown sugar. The Salt Lick Rub has cayenne, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt & pepper.)

1 cup BBQ sauce

METHOD

  1. Season the meat: I highly recommend seasoning the front and back of your rack of ribs with your dry rub and refrigerating it covered for 4 to 24 hours to allow it to season and tenderize the meat. Remove the ribs from the refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 30-45 minutes prior to roasting.

  2. Preheat the oven 250˚F. Lay out a long sheet of aluminum foil that will fit the rack of ribs vertically with an extra 3” of foil at each end. Pull the aluminum foil up on each of the long sides, and then take the short and roll up to seal the ends. Take two more pieces of foil and lay them side by side. Lay the rack of ribs over these pieces, lift the sides of the foil to meet over the top of the ribs like a tent, and roll down to seal. You want to completely cover the rack of ribs in a pocket (with some room for steam to build at the top so not too tightly) that will contain the juices the ribs will release while also holding in the steam for roasting. Place the foil wrapped rack of ribs on a baking sheet. Place in the oven for 4 hours.

  3. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and carefully completely open up the foil packet (you do not need to remove the ribs, just open the top so they are completely exposed).

  4. Turn the oven setting to broil at 450˚F. Cover the top of the ribs in your favorite BBQ sauce using a brush. Return the baking sheet to the oven for 4-7 minutes, until the BBQ sauce is bubbly and beginning to brown. It will appear thicker will be sticking to the ribs.

  5. Remove from the oven, let rest for 10 minutes, and enjoy!
